A New Year of Progress at Wesley

Bradley Park – East Brownstone & Care Center

Construction continues, and each building is moving steadily toward exciting milestones. Despite heavy rains, the team navigated site conditions safely and kept work moving forward. Below is a quick look at what’s happening—A New Year of Progress at Wesley.

The Barndt Family Rehabilitation & Care Center is scheduled for completion in 2027, a bit later than originally planned due to permit delays.  The construction team is completing the foundation work while electricians are running wire to connect power to the existing Lodge building.

A new pool pavilion will be attached to the care center, and preparations are underway for upcoming concrete work.

Meanwhile, mason work on the exterior of the East Brownstone is in full gear, and decks are almost complete.  Inside, the focus is on drywall, ductwork electrical and insulation.

The apartments look great! By the end of 2025, 30 families had selected their new homes in the East Brownstone—nearly half of the available apartments.

Des Moines – Creekside

Wesley presented plans for the new Creekside building to the Des Moines City Council, which expressed unanimous support for the project.  We are fortunate to have such a collaborative relationship with the City of Des Moines and appreciate its support in our redevelopment and growth.

Looking ahead, Creekside is a new independent living building planned for the Des Moines campus with four floors of spacious apartments, enclosed parking, a top-floor club room, and new outdoor amenities. Wesley Des Moines’ Captain’s Club has almost 400 families waiting to be called for apartments.  Creekside will have over 100 new apartment options for people to consider.

As planning continues with our development team and lenders, we will share more details about the schedule, floor plans and pricing. We anticipate that we’ll be ready to take reservations and start construction in early spring.

Des Moines – Terrace Renovation

The Terrace dining room and auditorium renovation started last fall and is expected to be completed this coming summer.  Once finished, The Terrace will be home to the Julia C. Moser Performing Arts Center, a new modern dining room and enhanced bistro. These new amenities will also be easily accessible to Creekside residents via a covered walkway. We’re excited to share these new renderings showing how the new space will look and feel.

Spring Glen Update

Just before the Christmas holiday, King County returned comments on the latest plan submission. Currently, our development team is preparing their response which we hope will be followed by the building permit. In the meantime, we continue to work with our contractor and financing teams to develop the schedule for this significant Wesley project.

King County Permits

We have resolved all issues related to the site, drainage, slopes, etc.  Our architect has completed the changes to the Town Center removing the church offices and submitted them to the county. The county sent comments in late December, and we expect them to issue building permits in the first quarter of this year.

Construction

Walsh Construction Company has received updated drawings from the architect and we expect to have an initial price from them for the project soon. Having the construction price allows us to pull the full financial proforma together to finalize entrance deposits and monthly fees.

Financing

We continue working with our development and lending partners to project when and how to finance the project. Wesley Spring Glen will be a major addition to Wesley’s portfolio. We want to make sure that we start this project in a strong financial position.

Washington State Certificate of Need for Skilled Nursing

State regulations require a Certificate of Need to build new skilled nursing and long term care centers. We estimate it will take 9-12 months to receive the Certificate of Need, which is required to start construction.

Timing

Based on permitting, site requirements and financing, the site work required for this building is extensive. Therefore, we must start in spring to keep from incurring wet weather conditions and costs. This, in addition to the above, leads us to anticipate a spring 2027 start of construction. With this latest projection, Wesley Spring Glen would open in fall 2029, about 2.5 years after the start of construction (about 4 years from now).

Important Note: All timelines and completion dates are estimates and are subject to change, and the timelines mentioned in this post may not be current.
