For some families, a career is a choice. For others, it becomes a calling that spans generations. They are guided by a mission to enrich the lives of older adults through community, choice and continuing care. Wesley’s impact is brought to life through the people who show up every day to serve. For the Rashid family, that shared mission has become deeply personal.
What began as a single opportunity has grown into a legacy with three generations of the Syed Rashid family. They dedicate their time, compassion and commitment to Wesley. Their story goes beyond employment, reflecting a sense of belonging, purpose and meaningful connections formed along the way.
Syed Mahtab Rashid began his journey at Wesley in 2014 and now serves as Controller. Over the years, what started as a career became something more profound.
“I realized it had become a family tradition when my son joined Wesley in 2024,” he shares. “I had already been here for 10 years. Seeing him choose to work for the same organization made it clear Wesley had become a meaningful part of our family’s journey. When my father joined the following year in 2025, it truly felt like a three-generation legacy had begun.”
The generations
Today, their calling that spans generations plays a unique role in supporting the Wesley community:
- Generation 1 – Syed Aminur Rashid works in Environmental Services at Wesley Des Moines, helping maintain a clean, safe and comfortable living environment for residents.
- Generation 2 – Syed Mahtab Rashid supports residents through his work in Finance at the Federal Way office, helping ensure resources are available when they’re needed most.
- Generation 3 – Syed Imaanullah Rashid serves as a Front Desk concierge at Wesley Des Moines, welcoming residents and visitors with warmth and care.
Though their roles differ, their work at Wesley reflects their shared values of service, compassion and connection It unites them in a common purpose.
“Before I joined Wesley, I learned a lot from my son about the organization’s culture and its commitment to serving older adults with dignity and respect,” says Syed Aminur. “Hearing his experiences helped prepare me for what to expect and made me feel confident that this was the right place for me.”
A sense of purpose
For Syed Imaanullah, that sense of purpose is what distinguishes his work at Wesley from his past experiences.
“My dad taught me that Wesley is more than a workplace. It’s a community built on kindness, service and connection,” he says. “My favorite part of the job is interacting with the residents at the Front Desk and the relationships I’ve built. I enjoy greeting them and helping with questions. It means a lot to me to brighten someone’s day.”
That sense of purpose extends beyond Syed Imaanullah and is shared by his grandfather as well.
“What keeps me coming back is the sense of purpose I find at Wesley,” says Syed Aminur. “The work we do truly matters. It directly impacts the lives of the residents we serve, from the relationships we build to the supportive and genuine team environment.”
For Syed Mahtab, that impact became especially clear during one unforgettable experience.
“One memorable moment happened when I worked on a financial analysis for a resident who needed additional support,” he recalls. “Wesley offers a subsidy program through the Wesley Community Foundation, and I was reviewing whether the resident qualified for assistance. When I confirmed the Foundation would be able to help cover the shortfall, it was incredibly meaningful. Sharing the news and knowing it would ease a resident’s financial burden is something I will never forget. It reminded me that behind every spreadsheet is a person whose life we can positively impact.”
Part of something meaningful
It’s moments like these that bring Wesley’s mission to life and reinforce the sense of pride Syed Mahtab feels being part of something larger than himself.
“What makes me most proud is knowing three generations of my family are part of an organization that truly values service, compassion and community,” says Syed Mahtab. “Knowing my father and my son feel connected to the same mission of serving older adults makes me proud. It feels special to be part of a place where our family can grow, contribute and make a difference together.”
Today, as three generations continue to serve side by side, their story is a powerful reminder: when you find a place that feels like home, it’s only natural to share it with the ones you love.
