Wesley Bradley Park’s Next Big Step

Construction for Phase II at Wesley Bradley Park in Puyallup officially begins in January, but the early site work has already captured the attention and excitement of the campus community.

Phase II Breaks Ground with Celebration

“We’ve been eagerly anticipating this moment,” said Karen Williams, Campus Administrator. “When we heard that early site work was imminent, we made a quick decision to hold a Groundbreaking Ceremony.” The Phase II Groundbreaking was planned in just 2 weeks and celebrated on October 4, 2024.

“The residents were hesitant at first,” Karen continued. “They didn’t believe we were finally starting the project. But, start we did.”

Wesley President / CEO Kevin Anderson joined Wesley Community Foundation Executive Director Susan McConnell, the fundraising committee and the Bradley Park Resident Council members in breaking ground on the new Barndt Family Rehab & Care Center and East Brownstone.

Construction in Action: A Front-Row Seat to Progress

Just days later, the excitement grew as equipment rolled in and site preparation began. The construction crew prepared the area where the East Brownstone will be located and began dirt filling the lot as the digging continued. The next step was to move those huge mounds of dirt to the new care center location. Dump trucks loaded with dirt made 200 round trips across the parking lot, creating temporary mountains of dirt.

As soon as the first pieces of equipment showed up, the contractors had an audience of residents, staff and visitors. Those residing in the West Brownstone had a front row seat to all the action and admired the skill of the equipment operators. Once the dirt was removed from the East Brownstone site, the contractors created a rock retaining wall by meticulously placing large boulders with their equipment like puzzle pieces. Everyone loves watching the day-to-day progress. It’s become a favorite topic of conversation at resident gatherings.

Residents in The Lodge also got in on the action. They also watch the work being done from their front-facing windows, balconies and hallway windows. A couple with a prime location on the fifth floor posted a sign, “Open – View the Construction Here”.  They cleared a pathway to the living room window allowing easy access for guests to have the best view on campus.

Looking Ahead: Construction Resumes in January

With early site preparation now complete, construction will resume in January. According to Karen, the Bradley Park community is eager to continue watching the construction progress. Phase II construction of the East Brownstone and the care center is expected to take approximately two years to complete.
