Finding Home at Wesley Lea Hill

For Vic and Ann Kaufman, the decision to move to Wesley Lea Hill wasn’t made overnight. But now, two years later, they can’t imagine living anywhere else. Their journey to senior living started when they saw a close friend make the move to a older adult community. As they watched their friend settle in, they began to consider the benefits for themselves—especially as home maintenance became more of a burden.

A First Impression That Grew on Them

When Vic and Ann first toured Wesley Lea Hill, they weren’t sure what to expect. At first glance, the interior of Eby Lodge felt a little darker than they anticipated, but on a second visit, they saw it in a new light.

“It’s designed like a lodge,” Vic explains, “and we quickly came to love that warm, welcoming atmosphere.”

Beyond the architecture, it was the natural surroundings that won them over—the trees, the vibrant spring flowers, and the peaceful pond and wetlands nestled within the campus.

A Life More Active Than Ever

Now that they’ve found their home at Wesley Lea Hill, the Kaufmans have found themselves more engaged and active than they expected.

“We’re busier now than we were before we moved!” Ann says with a laugh.

Movie Reel

They love attending performances both on campus and at the local senior center. They are also members of the resident Movie Committee. The committee helped start Friday night movie showings in Wesley Lea Hill’s theater, creating a new way for residents to gather and enjoy evenings together.

Outside of the community, Vic stays active with golfing and bowling. And both of them appreciate the proximity to shopping and local amenities.

A Smooth Transition to Retirement Living

One of the biggest concerns for many people considering a move to a senior community is the logistics of downsizing and relocating. For the Kaufmans, the process was far easier than expected, thanks to Wesley’s support.

“Maureen [Sullivan-Larson], the community relations director here, made the move so easy,” Vic recalls. “She connected us with a great moving company that was professional, hardworking and respectful. They just took care of everything.”

Having already downsized before their move, they found the packing process manageable. However, Vic recognizes that’s not the case for everyone.

“Wesley offers great resources for people looking to downsize, and I can see how that would be a huge help,” he says.

When their grandchildren came to visit, they were amazed—not just by the campus, but by how happy their grandparents were in their new home.

Opening Their Doors to Others

One of the things that makes Wesley Lea Hill feel like home is the sense of community.

“People know your name here,” Ann says. “It’s a real, warm connection.”

Wanting to share their experience, the Kaufmans have gone a step further by welcoming potential residents into their apartment during community tours.

“They are the best,” says Maureen. “I couldn’t believe how gracious they’ve been in showing their apartment to people I’m touring. Like so many of our residents and resident ambassadors, they’re great representatives of the community.”

Advice for Those Considering a Move

When asked what advice they’d give to others thinking about senior living, Vic’s answer is simple: “Just get on the [Priority Reservation] list—even if you’re still just thinking about it.”

He encourages future residents to start planning early, begin downsizing at their own pace, and take advantage of Wesley’s resources. “There’s a lot to do to prepare for a move, but you just have to start somewhere. You just have to do it,” says Vic.
